Fourth-year bowler Karen Pinn received two major awards at the Bowls Gisborne-East Coast centre prize-giving at Kahutia Bowling Club.

Pinn, a member of the Gisborne and Kahutia clubs, was named Most Improved Junior Women’s Player and Women’s Player of the Year.

Gisborne club member Steve Goldsbury was named Men’s Player of the Year, while Poverty Bay club member and second-year bowler Gerry Kora was named Most Improved Junior Men’s Player.

Bowls Gisborne-East Coast vice-president Jon Davies made a presentation to centre life member Bobbie Beattie in acknowledgement of her contribution as the centre’s tournament controller, a position from which she is stepping down.

Pinn won three centre titles in the 2022-23 season — the centre women’s open singles, the centre women’s open triples (with Ngamiro Allen and Dayvinia Mills) and the Ella Gibson Women’s Open Fours (with Glenys Whiteman, Mills and Dianne Phillips). Pinn was also runner-up (with Lucy Shanks) in the Chisholm Senior-Junior Optional Pairs.

Goldsbury won the centre men’s open pairs (with Malcolm Trowell), the Peace Shield Men’s Open Fours (with Paddy Stewart, David File and John Dawson) and the centre champion of champions men’s open fours (with Trowell, Arthur Hawes and Peter Clay). Goldsbury was also runner-up (with File, Stewart and Ricky Miller) in the JJ Martin Men’s Open Fours, and in the men’s open singles.
