Who can comment?
Anyone with a paid or 'basic' subscription to The Gisborne Herald online can post a comment.
Do all comments get published?
All comments are reviewed by our moderation team before being published.
Do I have to use my real name on a comment?
Yes, the full name on your subscription account will appear next to your comments.
Can I edit a post after it is posted?
You have a 15 minute window after publishing a comment to edit it.
What can I add in a comment?
Plain text. Emojis are not accepted.
Who can I contact if I'm concerned about a comment or have other general feedback?
Please email editor@gisborneherald.co.nz if you have any concerns.
What is a top comment?
Our moderation team may choose to highlight a ‘top comment’ which pins the comment to the top of the list.
What type of comments should I avoid?
This is not a space for personal attacks on staff or other commenters. Personal attacks, trolling, or comments that are extremely offensive or abusive will be removed.
Comments that are discriminatory, offensive or abusive to others on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability will not be tolerated. This includes:
- obscenities
- comments that incite or promote violence or illegal acts
- trolling
- comments that constitute contempt of court, violate court-ordered suppressions (or have the potential to contravene future suppressions)
- spam content, commercial promotions or advertising
- defamatory comments
