Counting down to start of cruise ship season

Giant cruise ship Noordam, operated by the Holland America Line, is no stranger to Tūranganui-a-Kiwa/Poverty Bay waters and will be visiting the district four times over the summer season. At 285 metres long and 32 metres wide, with 11 passenger decks and carrying over 1900 passengers and 800 crew, it is the biggest cruise ship that will visit Gisborne.Picture by Rebecca Grunwell

Gisborne will next week host the National Geographic Orion, the first cruise ship visit for the 2023/24 summer season.

It is scheduled to arrive at 8am on November 13, bringing about 106 passengers and 75 crew members for a day-long excursion.
