Driftwood fire burns over 100m at Waipaoa River mouth

Six urban and rural fire crews battled an out-of-control driftwood fire along a stretch of beach at the Waipaoa River mouth on Tuesday. 

Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Allison Munn said firefighters received a report of a 100-metre- by-20m blaze about 3.30pm. 

Two fire appliances and one tanker from Gisborne, plus three rural fire appliances attended.
