Deputy Prime Minister Carmel Sepuloni, opening Tāmati Coffey’s East Coast election headquarters in Gisborne yesterday, said some parties wanted to take the country in a dark direction.

Huh, less than two weeks of the election campaign left, and the Labour candidate finally gets a physical base and headquarters here. He may well learn that we are parochial here and someone moving into the district for purely self-interested political purposes - not forgetting he said earlier in the year he was retiring from politics to spend more time with family. All that has changed - but has it? How committed is he to this electorate?
