Gisborne firearm incident: One person arrested

1 min read

A man has been arrested in Gisborne after a serious family harm incident involving a firearm.

Police were called to an Ormond Rd address about 3.45pm on Sunday after a report of two women being assaulted.

Those women were also threatened with a firearm and a shot was fired towards one of them, police said.

There were no serious injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said police inquiries on Wednesday resulted in the Armed Offenders Squad cordoning off an area near Waikirikiri Park, Gisborne, and a man was arrested without incident.

Police seized a cutdown firearm, Moorehouse said.

Moorehouse said police acknowledged the community support as police worked to make the arrest.

The 29-year-old Gisborne man, known to have gang links, was due to appear in Gisborne District Court Thursday.

He faces charges including serious assault and threatening to kill, as well as firearms offences, including commission of a crime with a firearm and discharging a firearm to intimidate.
