A Covid-19-attributed fatality has been recorded in Tairāwhiti for the second consecutive week.
The latest Health NZ figures for the week ending midnight Sunday records the Tairāwhiti death, which takes the district’s Covid-19-attributed death tally to 47.
There were 43 active cases in Tairāwhiti as at Sunday.
New Zealand is experiencing a level of Covid cases not matched since late 2022, but Otago University Professor of Biochemistry Kurt Kraue has been reported as saying a major outburst is unlikely.
There were 34 deaths recorded across the nation last week and 3560 active cases
The total New Zealand death tally is 4120 and there have been 2,663,926 cases of Covid.
Health NZ says 279 Covid-19 patients were in hospital as at Sunday.
Of the 34 deaths recorded, one was in their 20s, two were in their 50s, three were in their 60s, nine were in their 70s, 15 were in their 80s and four were aged over 90.
