‘Is nothing sacred anymore?’: Dismay at funeral home arson

Firefighters arrived in time to stop the fire taking hold at Evans Funeral Services on the corner of Wi Pere St and Ormond Rd, but there was some smoke damage caused to a family room in the complex. It is being treated as arson.

Firefighters arrived in the nick of time to stop a fire in its tracks at Evans Funeral Services early on Sunday morning. The incident is being treated as arson. 

Police have an inquiry under way into the fire which shocked Evans staff. 

“Is nothing sacred anymore?” Evans managing director David Parker said to the Gisborne Herald on Monday.
