Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk set to reopen: Dispute remains over closure

Outdoor enthusiasts will be excited to hear that the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk is scheduled to reopen on January 10 next year.

However, there’s still a dispute between Te Urewera’s iwi managers and hydro company Genesis Energy as to whether the early closure of the track last February was due to Cyclone Gabrielle alone or the company’s mismanagement of lake levels.
