Rotorua quake felt here as ‘tiny jiggle’

An earthquake centred in the Rotorua area early this morning was felt in this region. 

It happened at around 2.20am and measured Magnitude 5.1, centred 168km deep, 10km from Rotorua. 

A Gisborne resident who felt it said it “felt like a tiny jiggle”. Others said the shaking was “light or weak”. It was widely felt throughout the North Island.
