Sallies sound SOS: Locals suffering in ‘perfect storm’ of poverty as cost rises continue

The coalition Government’s cuts to social services have led to continued hardship for tens of thousands of Kiwis, at least 1500 in Tairāwhiti, The Salvation Army says. 

In a national release as part of its Winter Appeal week, the Sallies said they cannot keep up with demand. 

In the first six months of this year, they have provided food assistance to more than 60,000 New Zealanders....
