Firefighters dealt with a vegetation fire behind Scott St near the airport on Monday night and a police patrol came across a fire in a house in the same street soon after.
Emergency services have linked the two incidents — both of which are being treated as suspicious.
Fire and Emergency NZ was called about the fire in grass, scrub and toetoe bushes around 6.15pm.
