Spring approaches with mixed bag of weather for the region

Gisborne and Napier basked in record heat, East Cape had another soaking and strong winds blasted the district in a “four-seasons-in-one-day” weekend. 

On Sunday Gisborne missed breaking the all-time heat record for August by a whisker. The mercury rose to its maximum even before midday, hitting 21.8C at 11.30am.

Re the temperatures, in Hawke's Bay the MetService records temperature readings in Napier airport, Napier city & Hastings city. All within a 15-20 km radius - 3 bites of the cherry.
Here in the Gisborne area we have the sole recording at Gisborne airport which, being on sand dune territory, is always subject to sea breezes - particularly in the afternoon.
I live in the west of the Gisborne in Whataupoko and our readings are regularly 2 degrees higher than the airport.
