Gisborne and Napier basked in record heat, East Cape had another soaking and strong winds blasted the district in a “four-seasons-in-one-day” weekend.
On Sunday Gisborne missed breaking the all-time heat record for August by a whisker. The mercury rose to its maximum even before midday, hitting 21.8C at 11.30am.

Here in the Gisborne area we have the sole recording at Gisborne airport which, being on sand dune territory, is always subject to sea breezes - particularly in the afternoon.
I live in the west of the Gisborne in Whataupoko and our readings are regularly 2 degrees higher than the airport.
