A missing G on Gisborne’s “Gizzy” sign caused a social media stir this week but it will be back home in time for the weekend.
Eastland Port installed the light-up sign in October last year.
On Tuesday morning, members of the public began to notice the letter’s absence at the city harbour’s waterfront.
On Wednesday, a social media post asking “who stole the letter G” from the sign and showing a photo of the new-look " Izzy” sign had hundreds of reactions and more than 170 comments.
Eastland Port has confirmed the letter was not stolen but damaged.
“Last week, two young men damaged the ‘G’ from our Gizzy sign, so it was taken away yesterday for some TLC and will return in time for the sunshine this weekend,” an Eastland Port spokeswoman told the Gisborne Herald.
“We hope our community and visitors can continue to enjoy this asset like they have for the last three months.”
In a post on social media, Eastland Port said the incident when the damage occurred had been caught on camera.
