1 min read

Carol Hawes of Gisborne Bowling Club represented Gisborne-East Coast in the national champion of champions women’s singles in Hastings.

In the first round, Hawes lost to Nicole Toomey, of Stokes Valley Bowling Club, 21-12.

Hawes then had a bye.

In the next game, she beat former Gisborne Bowling Club member Gaylene Kanawa. Both played well and Hawes won 21–16.

She lost her next two games — 21-15 to Raewyn Renall, of Manurewa Cosmopolitan Bowling Club, and 21-15 to Jenny Anderson, of Picton Bowling Club.

Players needed three wins to qualify, so with only one win, which meant Hawes did not go into post-section play.

She finished 15th out of 20 female players around the country.

Paritutu Bowling Club member Briar Atkinson won the national champion of champions women’s singles while Nicole Toomey was runner-up.
