WI anniversaries an opportunity to help flood-hit Wairoa

1 min read

Women’s Institute (WI) members met for lunch at The Tav on Thursday to celebrate the anniversaries of two local WIs and gather baked goods for flood victims and clean-up crews in Wairoa.

It was the 93rd birthday of the Puha WI and 40th birthday for Turanganui WI.

“What better gift than home baking for our Frasertown members to go home loaded up with loaves and bickies to pass out, to give  a friendly  smile to those who have lost their homes and the many volunteers helping with the clean-up – as we enjoy lunch and catch up with fellow members,” said Poverty Bay Wairoa Federation of WI president Alison Crawford.

Toilet paper and tea bags were added after hearing on the radio that morning that Wairoa was running short on them for all the volunteers.
