INDOOR BOWLS

Poverty Bay-East Coast indoor bowlers continued their impressive run  at the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Championships by winning the District Challenge in New Plymouth.

Each district was represented by four bowlers and 22 districts started the event.

PBEC bowlers Malcolm Trowell, Dylan Foster, Matthew Foster and David Lynn proved unstoppable in the event.

In their first game they beat the Top of the South team then  followed it up with victory over  Canterbury.

PBEC defeated Auckland in the quarterfinals and had a commanding win over Wairarapa in the semifinals.

In the final, the Bay players combined well to comfortably shut out Wanganui.

This was the second year running Poverty Bay-East Coast had won this event.

The District Challenge title came on top of PBEC bowlers winning the open fours and pairs, and masters fours at the nationals, among other achievements.

Matthew Foster won the New Zealand Henselite Singles local final in a titanic battle with Jay Casey.

Foster will go on to contest a zone final in July against bowlers from Thames Valley, Tauranga, Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
