Te Wharau do the double at interschool

Te Wharau won both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the 2023 Primary School Interschool Badminton Competition played at the Badminton Centre.

A combined Ormond/Te Wharau team were runners-up in the boys’ division and Makauri were runners-up in the girls’ division.

Primary school players from Te Wharau, Ormond, Makauri, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Horouta Wānanga, Te Hapara and Central took part.

Teams of four played doubles, in a round-robin competition. Teams were exceptionally competitive and enthusiastic.

Players were ready to learn and try new skills. They enjoyed their matches, and the sportsmanship was fantastic.

Many ties went down to the wire, with a drawn match score and points having to be counted. In the boys’ playoffs, Horouta and Central (1) drew 3 matches all, 64 points all.

A big thank you goes to Kim Perano, from Te Wharau, who coordinated the day, and also to the teachers, learning support staff, and parents who contributed to the success of the day.
